The Meeting
In a kingdom that never slept, two keepers were charged with its hours. Roger held the daylight — the sunlit watch, the bright and busy court. Erika held the night — the lamplit halls, the quiet magic after dusk. By decree they were never meant to meet for long; only in the brief gold-and-silver hour where their shifts overlapped, when day handed the kingdom to night. In that narrow seam of time they traded notes and knowing glances, small kindnesses left behind for the other to find. Neither of them noticed the enchantment taking hold, until one evening the handover came and neither wanted to leave. The sun and the moon, it turns out, had been falling in love all along.
